The University of Missouri - St. Louis came into the contest as the defending national champions and needed to defeat Long Beach State to keep the hopes of a repeat alive. The second period continued to be a defensive struggle until Marty Gwozdz used his speed to iniciate the second UMSL tally of the game, finding Aaron Shultz who dished off to Danny Dwyer to give UMSL the 2-0. The goal by Dwyer was his first of the game and gave UMSL a ton of breathing room in a very tightly played contest. After two period of play, UMSL hed a slight 18-14 advantage in shots.

The third and final period was more of the same, dominating UMSL defense and sporatic offensive attacks. Alex Nebrig scored with two minutes of play to essentially lock up the victory over Long Beach State. With the net empty and desperation setting in, Danny Dwyer found Marty Gwozdz who fired the puck into the empty net for the final tally of the game and a 4-0 victory for UMSL.

Jimmy Steger made 18 saves in picking up the shutout victory for UMSL.

UMSL will advance to play Lindenwood, a 9-1 winner over Rhode Island in the Final Four. UMSL defeated Lindenwood 5-3 last season to win the 2009 national title.
